The 6 SEO strategies that work in 2021/2022
Traffic is the lifeline of any website that wants to thrive on the internet in the next couple of years to come. Over the last five years, organic traffic has contributed over 50% of the total traffic that visits websites. Whether you are running a small business or a big enterprise, the only way you can sustainably grow your business online is by taking advantage of organic traffic from search engines.
If you are keen to learn more about how you can generate more organic traffic from search engines, this article is for you. We shall discuss the six most reliable Search Engine Optimization (SEO) strategies that you can use to increase the traffic you get from search engines.
Let’s dive in!
-
Keyword research
One of the first things you need to do is research the keywords that your target audience will likely use while searching for anything related to your business. You will notice that most of the strategies that I will share will involve using these keywords. There are several tools that you can use for your keyword research.
The most reliable keyword researching tools that you can use include; Semrush and KWFinder. These tools will enable you to figure out the competition of the various keywords and their respective search volumes. If your website is relatively new, always try to stay away from keywords that have high competition.
The ideal choice should always be keywords with low competition but more search volume. However, most of the keywords with a high search volume usually have high competition too. So, you will have to dig deeper to land on a keyword with high search volume but less completion.
Most SEO keyword research tools usually rank keywords using a parameter called SEO Keyword difficulty (KD). A keyword with a low KD percentage usually gives you more chances of ranking on the first page than one with a high KD percentage. For the best results, always go for keywords with a KD% that is below 50%.
-
Create fresh and unique content
Search engines, including Google and Bing, love fresh content because they know their users are always looking for the latest information. The most reliable way of ensuring your website has fresh content is through adding a blog section on the site which you can use to discuss various topics within your industry and informative content related to the products/services you sell.
While creating this content, don’t forget to add the keywords you zeroed on during your keyword research. Your main keyword should appear in the H1 tag and some of the H2 and H3 tags. However, while adding the keywords, always remember to make it as natural as possible. Find ways of using these keywords in a way that makes sense based on the topic you are discussing.
Uniqueness is also an essential factor that you need to consider. So, avoid having plagiarized content on your website. Always research the topic, understand it, and then explain it in your way. The goal is to ensure your website content has some unique taste from the rest of the content on the internet.
-
Optimise your website’s speed
Studies show that a typical internet user is unwilling to wait for more than 2 to 3 seconds for a webpage to load. If your website is slow, your bounce-back rate will be high, which is not good for SEO. To optimize your website’s speed, use Google’s PageSpeed Insights tool to, first of all, know how fast your website is and what you can do to improve it.
This tool will scan through every webpage of your website to determine how long each of them takes to load. Some of the common factors that affect website speeds include the size of media files, server response time, traffic size, and many more. Google’s PageSpeed Insights tool will help identify which exact factor affects your website’s speed. This will give you an idea of what exactly you should fix to improve your website’s performance.
-
Improve the overall user experience of your website
Your target customer will visit your website to get value from it. People will typically visit your site either to learn more about your products, read one of your blogs, or make a purchase. You need to make it easy for all your target users to find whatever they want on your website.
Make sure all the content on your websites, including product/services descriptions, articles, and the rest of the pages, is easy to read. You should also make navigating from one webpage to another very seamless. Users will usually check out more of your content and products if they find it to navigate between the various web pages.
-
Don’t forget Image SEO
All the images on your website, including images of your products and those used while creating articles, should all be well optimized for SEO. Some of the best image SEO strategies that you can start with include adding keywords to the image titles, description, caption, and alt tags. Having keywords in all the texts that describe your images will boost their chances of ranking higher in Search engine results.

Get more reviews to boost local SEO
If you are running a local-based business such as a grocery store, restaurant, or barbershop, you need to target people within your location through local SEO. One of the most reliable ways to boost your local SEO is by getting good reviews from your previous customers. Search engine algorithms usually consider the quality of reviews as one of the major parameters for ranking local websites.
These reviews will also enhance your visibility in Google Maps. You will notice that whenever you search for places such as restaurants, gyms, or bars, Google Maps always puts places with more and positive reviews above those with few and negative reviews. To get good reviews for your business, start by requesting your previous customers.
You should, however, make sure they are satisfied with what you sold them before you ask them to write a review.
